The night sings

Tonight I felt more alive than I have in a long time,  It was like the night was enveloping me and if I span around I could become it. The night was singing and it was like the wind was playing it’s own melody among the trees and reaching out to touch me, I could imagine all the scents swirling round and everthing was so spiratual, I love how long twilight is during Summer, the air feels so warm but without the sun it’s also cool at the same time. I found a small park on a street I had never been down before and I lay on the grass watching the first star and observing the day, I’m outside now and want to capture it, so it can stay this way always, but at the same time there is beauty in the way time changes and we have to savour the things that are rare and beatiful. I am happy that todays events led me to travell along the way I did, this season I am going to walk everynight, the streets are so quiet and peaceful at that time just before night. I was walking barefoot down the middle of a street that was strewn with Jasmine I could feel it between my toes and the smell sent to a state of elation and made me feel in harmony with the world and life. I feel so revalitised and all everthing else feels so small. I want to fall into the night.

When we made love you ued to cry

Today I picked up a Dire straits tape on the way home, I love the song Romeo and Juliet, it’s a love song totally opposite to the play. Romeo and Juliet were poor but in love until Juliet, they shared a dream but Juliet ditched Romeo when she got there.  I think the most powerful line in the song is when Romeo sings, “Juliet when we made love you used to cry, you said I love you like the stars above I’ll love you till I die”. I’ve worked out most of the chords on the guitar, I just have to learn the riffs at the start and end.

Right now I’m loving these songs

Romeo and Juliet – Dire straights

Your only doll – Laura Marling

Just a Boy – Angus and Julia Stone

Bella – Angus and Julia Stone

Wasted – Angus and Julia Stone

New Romantic – Laura Marling

Tiny Dancer – Elton John

Gotta have you – the weepies

Such Great Heights – the postal service

They have a kind of mellow feel, my music taste is normally allot broader than this, I guess this is just my mood at the moment. I really want a piano and a violin, I love string instruments, I want to put a few more instruments together with my guitar, I used play the harmonica allot, but quite allot of people are playing it at the moment and the repertoire going around is a bit repetitive.

Buffalo soldier

Yesterday I went to a conference about poverty with Ellie, Eggers and Saskia, it was about world poverty. I recognised quite a lot of people that I’ve seen before at similar events, most of them are university age. It’s interesting how the group of people in Adelaide interested and informed about these issues are mainly young people. I don’t know how these events could attract different types of people, I’ll have to think about it.

I have started to sponsor a child. Her name is Agulansi, she is seven and lives in Uganda with her mother, father and two sisters.  Uganda is just below Sudan and the fundamentalist Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) raids northern Uganda, over 45 000 people have been displaced. Most of the people in the LRA are teenagers who have been abducted to fight. The LRA, is involved with killings, torture and abductions. 96.4% of people living in Uganda live on less the $2 a day, both Agulansi’s parents are unemployed. She loves mathematics, I think that is so important in poor countries especially for girls when they are considered not as important as men.

I encourage everyone to have a look at the world vision website, helping a child is so much more important than spending $43 a month on clothes and material things, if I can afford on a couple of shifts a week at a fast food place I’m sure most people can too. If $43 is too much you can join the child rescue program which is only $10 a month.

Into the gutter

The last time I walked for over a mile was when I walked home because it was raining. I love being lost in thought walking in the rain and noticing all the little things you miss from the bus and wandering through side streets that you wouldn’t normally pass in your everyday travels. The weather today was beautiful, I made use of its loveliness by lying on the grass with Alice, Yolanda, Jason and Tom listening to Angus and Julia Stone. Today’s lovely weather means it will soon be summer and I can ride my bike to school in the mornings, I used to ride every day before winter and then I got into the bad habit of catching the bus. A bicycle ride is the perfect, clean, green start to the day and saves $10 a week on bus tickets, I find it very revitalising.

The last thing I bought was a lovely dress from a boutique on rundle street, it was a one of a kind and went beautifully with a little red cardigan, I love all the little shops on rundle shop but I wish I could afford the clothes. Rundle street is simply delightful, I recommend the chocolate bean, urban cow studio, Eckersley’s, Boutika, market bazaar and the gelati shop near the end.
